The Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him stated in a Hadith Qudsi that Allah SWT from His own words said that: “O son of Adam! Devote yourself to My worship, I will fill your chest with riches and alleviate your poverty. And if you do not do so, then I will fill your hands with problems and not alleviate your poverty.”
This is one of the fundamental and greatest actions that a person can perform and that is the prayer at its prescribed time, worshipping and devotion to only Allah SWT so that a person’s heart can be filled with the riches of this world. What this means is that if we look at the breakdown of the prayer it begins with first of all purification of the body by performing wudhu washing the mouth, nose, face, arms and wiping the hair and washing the feet. Then when ablution has been performed a person then wears the appropriate clothing or attire and makes the intention to stand before Allah SWT in prayer. Beginning with proclaiming the greatness of Allah SWT and then within qiyam the standing before Allah SWT a person recites the praise and gratitude with the words of the Quran with the core aspect without which no prayer is accepted and that is reciting the surah fatiha followed by other verses of the Quran.
This is how a person seeks guidance, understanding, devotion and gives thanks and praise to Allah SWT humbling themselves and although this conversation between the person and Allah in which Allah responds to the worshipper, we cannot see or hear what Allah responds with but what we do know is that Allah is All Seeing, All Hearing and All Aware of everything that people do.
So the aspects of how the prayer make a person’s heart filled with riches begins with comprehension of the words of Allah that illuminates the person bringing light into their hearts and the spoken word of Allah the Quran makes the person humble, submissive to Allah, it creates love for the divine, it builds virtues of the various concepts that Allah is speaking to the person from the Quran, aspects such as the mercy and forgiveness that a person can attain. The love and devotion to the sublime and perfect words of Allah and also to the perfection of Allah SWT who is free from all imperfection and is worthy of All praise. Then there are other aspects that the heart can fathom, such as the sweetness of faith, when belief is rooted in the oneness of Allah and singles out the worship directed only to Allah, this brings strength and power to the person, spiritually it makes them content. It provides all means of goodness within their hearts, there is many dimensions to the purification of the heart that makes the person genuinely sound towards reasoning and the behavior of the individual throughout the day and night as they through increments of different times of the day observe their five mandatory prayers. The heart is that part which governs the entire body and requires purification which is done through reciting the verses of the Quran and understanding and applying this sound profound knowledge.
Not only is their contentment, there is peace found within the hearts of the worshipper in the remembarance of Allah for people usually seek peace through different means that not only cause further turmoil but the hearts will never find peace as those aspects through different methods that people seek such as devotion to other than Allah, the chasing of their desires and pleasures, seeking and spending all their time building wealth, the use of drugs and narcotics to remove feelings of emptiness and suffering, physical pleasures and desires that are out of the bounds of marriage and many other different ways that people seek peace, will actually cause more poverty and problems and suffering within the hearts of people due to their neglect of not understanding and not worshipping the only being worthy of worship Allah SWT.
So when a person spends time standing in prayer and goes through the various aspects of the prayer, standing, bowing, prostrating and sitting in prayer devoting the entire heart to the love and greatness of Allah SWT this instills within them great riches of the heart such as self sufficiency, contentment, patience, love and compassion, forgiveness and mercy, devotion to the sublime and divine aspects and attributes of Allah, it also builds within the heart many other riches such as happiness, joy, wonder, being in awe of the greatness of Allah, finding the most beautiful aspects of how the Creator provides all manners of riches to a person not just in terms of spiritual wealth but when a person devotes their time to the worship of Allah and then seeks Allahs bounty and provision by working within the world, Allah SWT opens up the treasuries and wealth of the world to the person where he cannot even imagine where it will come from whether it is in less amount, large amount or excess amount. The entire wealth and means will be provided to the person to make their needs met and above and beyond when a person knows how to build halal wealth within the framework of either trade or commerce or even through different investment and monetary wealth building methods.
So Allah SWT not only builds for the person through their efforts the means to alleviate poverty, HE SWT provides everything for the person and fills their hearts with riches and removes poverty from their lives. Also the various blessings that are found in prayer such as patience, gratitude, peace, love, humbleness, humility, gentleness, calmness, contentment and many other such qualities that instill beautiful characteristics within a person making them fearful of Allah but with love, hope and devotion to the divine that instills personal growth and self development making the person much more closer to Allah and also is able to attain the mercy and forgiveness of Allah which after a life time of devotion brings the greatest wealth and reward of the gardens of the paradise within the heavens.
If a person neglects their main purpose of life which is worship of only Allah they will find that within their lives Allah SWT will create troubles and problems for them as a means for them to realise that they actually need to return and come back to Allah and troubles and problems are also a blessing in disguise in the sense that if a person realises that being grateful and patient even in times of difficulty and hardship, Allah SWT is calling them back to His devotion. And the people if they continue to neglect their purpose will find that poverty will be placed into their lives, they will have no peace, contentment or riches of the heart, their monetary wealth will be constrained, they will seek different ways to create and chase after wealth which will eventually cause them to enter their graves with time wasted in the world chasing after its attractions and the heart will neither find peace nor will they find the outcome after death to be of any blessing. Their lives will be in poverty on this earth, troubles, problems and hardships causing suffering, complications, unrest and the final outcome is that they will have no share in the hereafter particularly if they are a disbeliever in Allah and it will mean a life of pain and suffering from this earth to a life of pain and torment for eternity in the hereafter.
Eventually when a person realises that in the remembrance and devotion and worship of only Allah SWT to the hearts find peace and all the above riches of the heart along with becoming self-sufficient and also monetarily wealthy by having all poverty removed from their lives and they are fulfilling their purpose of worshipping only Allah and this means not just prayer but all other forms of worship that are prescribed within the shariah such as giving charity, feeding the poor, supporting the orphans, fasting, good treatment to parents and neighbours and all other virtues and moral aspects that are within the framework of the shariah, the entire life of the muslim from before sunrise till the time they go to sleep at night is spent in the obedience and worship of Allah, that when the fate is decreed through their free will a person will reach deaths door and return to Allah hoping that Allah accepted their efforts and that a person is saved from the punishment of Allah the hellfire and rewarded with the gardens of paradise in the heavens wherein which a person will abide forever. So worship and devotion to Allah brings riches to the heart and alleviates poverty and within the remembrance of Allah do hearts find peace.
